Cybercriminals Targeting Formula 1 Fans with Fake Streaming Services, Counterfeit Merchandise, and Phishing Scams

Scope: Formula 1 Fans (Global)

Severity: Medium

Bitdefender's Fan Threat Index, compiled since March 2025, documents an industrialized criminal ecosystem specifically built around Formula 1 that includes fake streaming portals mimicking F1 TV, counterfeit merchandise stores using official team logos and fabricated reviews to harvest payment card data, and social media impostor accounts offering fake paddock passes and giveaways in exchange for personal information. Victims risk financial loss through fraudulent purchases, payment card theft, malware infection from fake streaming sites, and credential exposure leading to follow-on targeted scams. F1 fans should only access live streams through official licensed broadcasters, purchase merchandise exclusively through official team and F1 websites, treat unsolicited prize or ticket offers on social media as fraudulent regardless of how convincing the account appears, and use reputable security software with anti-phishing capabilities when browsing event-related content.

The Uganda National CERT and Coordination Center (CERT.UG/CC) encourages users and administrators to review the recommendations and apply the necessary updates.
